President's Day is Coming!                                                                                                                                            The Jefferson Plantation Exhibit is Coming to the Wright Museum!                                                                                The Musical 'Hamilton' is Coming to the Fisher Theater! Sounds Great, Huh?  George Washington was one of the largest slaveowners in America's history, and tried to block any form of freedom for Africans.  Thomas Jefferson enslaved 600 people on his plantation, Monticello - One of whom he was raping at least since she was a teenager.  Hamilton is portrayed as an abolitionist in the musical, but the REAL Alexander Hamilton was a slave trader and slaveowner.  Join historian Jamon Jordan and learn about these people and the problems with how they are portrayed in museums, exhibits and musicals. Also learn about how slavery and slaveowners helped to shape Detroit's politics, its institutions and its establishment as the main city in the state.  This program is a fundraiser for the Cass Corridor Commons. We recommend a donation of $5. Please make your donation at the door when you arrive.
