Creating Memory: The Art of Clarissa Johnson

The Contemporary Artists Program (CAP) is pleased to present the works of native Detroit painter, Clarissa Johnson. A nationally recognized artist for more than twenty years, Ms. Johnson is especially known for her detailed landscapes and dignified renderings of African American portraits and family life. After taking time to devote to her children, Ms. Johnson started her professional career as an artist at the age of sixty-five. Now at age ninety-three, her passion for the arts continues. Creating Memory includes original works and prints that have never been exhibited. Other pieces such as richly painted images of grandparents reading to their grandchildren, and a child’s "first kiss," have become some of her most celebrated and collected works.
