      1st Annual Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser

Fundraiser to benefit Students Going Global's Annual Educational Tours Abroad for Detroit youth: Costa Rica, 2020 Each year we will have a "one day" Bowl-A-Thon to raise money for our Educational Tours Abroad for Detroit Youth. A major part of the Global Education Program at Students Going Global includes unique international travel experiences. “Caring for Our Youth” is the reason we bowl for fun and dollars. On June 1st, 2019, we will raise the funds for our upcoming Educational Tours Abroad.  Research shows that most American students, low-income and minority groups in particular, lag behind their peers in other countries in their knowledge of world geography, foreign languages and cultures, so investing in the global education of our youth is paramount in the 21st century and critical to the nation’s ability to compete with other first world countries. The demands of a globalized economy and an interconnected and interdependent world require the U.S. educational system to adapt to the global age. According to The Center for International Understanding, the global era requires that we produce globally-minded U.S. high school graduates equipped to do the following: Sell to the world, buy from the world, work for international companies, manage employees from other cultures/countries, collaborate with people all over the world in joint ventures, compete with people on the other side of the world for jobs and markets and tackle global problems. A Global Studies curriculum provides a broadened perspective, and the knowledge and skills to navigate successfully in college and in careers in a 21st century global economy and the ability to later pursue international careers.  Although there are other after-school programs within the city of Detroit, none provides a global education focused curriculum including Educational Tours Abroad and 21st century skills training. This does not give Detroit students any leverage upon completion of high school. We intend to rectify this by increasing youth engagements in global education and awareness and providing life-changing educational tours abroad through high school graduation and beyond.
